New Store Openings and “Opening Soon” Listings

How Google, Yelp, Facebook, and Apple handle locations before opening

When you add a new location before it officially opens, most publishers allow the listing to appear publicly so customers can find you, follow you, and plan ahead. Each platform handles this a little differently.

Will the listing show before opening?

Yes. Google allows listings to appear online 90 days before the set opening date.

Is there an “Opening Soon” banner?

Yes. If the opening date is set in the profile and in the future, Google displays an “Opening soon” label on the listing.

Important notes

  • You can add your location to GBP up to one year in the future. Once you’ve verified the listing and set an opening date, the listing will display 90 days before the opening date.

  • Setting a future opening date shows the “Opening soon” label automatically.

  • Google requires you to verify the listing, which can take up to 5 business days if not longer.

Will the listing show before opening?

Yes. Yelp supports listings for businesses that are not yet open up to 1 month before the opening date.

Is there an “Opening Soon” banner?

No. Yelp does not display an “Opening soon” label on the listing. You can choose to add it to your Yelp business description.

Important notes

  • Users can follow the business and sign up for notifications before opening.

  • Opening date should be kept accurate to avoid confusion.

  • You must claim the listing under your Yelp account in order to reply to reviews.

Will the listing show before opening?

Yes. Pages can be published before the business opens.

Is there an “Opening Soon” banner?

No. Facebook does not have a built-in “Opening soon” label like Google.

You can communicate this by:

  • Adding an opening date in the ‘About’ section

  • Posting an announcement post and pinning it to the top of the page

Important notes

  • People can follow the page and message the business before opening.

  • Clear messaging is important since there is no automatic banner.

Will the listing show before opening?

No. Apple does not publish the listing publicly until the opening date.

Is there an “Opening Soon” banner?

No. Apple does not display an “Opening soon” banner on the live listing.

Important notes

  • When creating the location, you must set the location status to Opening Soon, add hours, and provide an opening date.

  • Apple requires verification before the listing is fully published. This can take up to 5 business days if not longer.

While the behaviors above are what each publisher is designed to do, listings don’t always behave exactly as expected. Verification delays, platform reviews, or system updates can sometimes impact when and how a new location appears.
